Now one of the best parts of the year is almost here, scary Halloween! Most of you probably know why Halloween is celebrated. But for those of you who do not, here you can watch a short documentary on the origins of Halloween or read up on WikiPedia (in English)or NE (in Swedish).  Celebrating Halloween is still kind of new in Sweden and celebrations here started in the middle of the 1990`s. Now it is a more or less accepted festivity alongside Alla helgons dag / All Saints day.  Another holiday celebrated around the same time, and also focusing on graveyards and the departed, is the Mexican Dia de Muertos or Day of the Dead in English. Read more about Dia de Muertos here. In old norse society the Alvablot was celebrated around this time of the year and also focusing on the underworld and the Elves and Vanir gods that was thought to reside there.

In the library we have scary books so come in and have a look! We have R.L. Stine´s Goosebumps-series for example. Another scary book is Svenska kulter (in Swedish), a collection of shorts stories by author Anders Fager in the vein of the master of horror H. P. Lovecraft. We also have a lot of books in the crime- and fantasy genres. Finally, we also have books on folklore and customs, if you want to do some reading about festivities such as Halloween.

We hope that you all will have a nice and scary Halloween!
